Summit Summary Third Annual Policy Summit Another Success!
The Capital Plaza Hotel was the site for the Third Annual Policy Summit on September 14. Participants were treated to a wonderful talk by our keynote speaker, Stephen Kiernan. Stephen is the author of “Last Rights.” Based on hundreds of scientific research papers and more than 200 interviews, “Last Rights” tells the stories of people whose lives ended badly for no good reason, as well as people whose last days were among the most meaningful and fulfilling in their lives. Other issues explored during the Policy Summit were the implementation of the Out of Hospital Do Not Resuscitate legislation passed this Legislative Session, medical futility, what’s next in public policy, and cultural diversity. Participants also heard an update on the work of the Center for Practical Bioethics and about national and state activities for National Health Care Decisions Day to be celebrated April 16 in the Capitol Building and with local events around the state. Summary papers from the breakout sessions will be coming soon.
